It can be awkward to talk to someone about giving to the Lord's work.  It is easier not to.  Chapters 8-9 of 2Corinthinans are an awkward, yet helpful and loving reprimand to followers of Jesus who knew what they should do, wanted to do it and yet for more than a year had not done it.  The awkwardness is amplified because of the topic, generous giving.  Generous, grace driven giving, much like prayer, Bible reading and witnessing, for most of us easily falls into the category of things we know we should do better, we want to do better, but just have not been able to gain traction to actually grow and change.
