Two positions of Biblical Leadership in the Church
Why we have elders and deacons:
Elder– elder, bishop, pastor Acts 20:17, 28
Deacon– servant Acts 6:1-7 / 1 Timothy 3:8-11
Philippians 1:1
I. The reasons for deacons. Acts 6:1-7
A. To serve the physical needs of the church.
B. To preserve the unity of the church.
C. To support the teaching of the Word.
II. The requirements to be a deacon. 1 Tim. 3:8-12
A. Dignified
B. Not double-tongued
C. Not addicted to much wine
D. Not greedy for dishonest gain
E. Clearly hold the mystery of the faith
F. Tested
G. Have a godly, faithful wife
H. Be a one-woman man
I. Be a godly husband and father in the home
III. The rewards of deacons. 1 Timothy 3:13
A. A good standing.
B. Great confidence in the faith.
