Living Right in a Wrong World

October 25, 2015 Series: 1 Peter: Exiled Faith

Scripture: 1 Peter 2:11–25

I. Living Right as a Sojourner (11-12)
     A. Inwardly (inward and private way): "I have more trouble with D.L. Moody that with any man I know." - D.L. Moody
The idea here is to carry on a campaign, not just a battle. Inwardly we need to have the resolve, by the power of the Spirit to stay away from evil.
     B. Outwardly (from the inward work)
II. Living Right as a Subject (13-17)
     A. The Mandate: subject for the Lord's sake, falling in line to what God has ordained - God's rule, parents, work, church.
     B. The Motive: will of God to to silence the ignorant to bring glory to God.
     C. The Method: live as free people by being a slave to Christ the one who gives true freedom. Imperatives - Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.
III. Living Right as a Servant (18-25)
     A. The Mandate: be submissive to your employers' - both the good and general and the unjust.
     B. The Method: endure - abide under the pressure and receive grace in and through the trial.
     C. The Model: follow the example of Jesus
          1. The Life of Jesus (Isaiah 53)
          2. The Death of Jesus (our substitute)
          3. The Ministry of Jesus (shepherding us)
Next Steps to the Beloved...
     > Daily remind yourself that right living begins with you but doesn't end with you.
     > Pray for those in authority over you (1 Timothy 2:1-6).
     > In action and attitude submit to those who are in authority over you (Epeshians 6:5-8). Not just what we do, but also how we think.
     > Obey the will (15 - Do good and silence the foolish) and the calling of God in your life (21 - endure trials). We always obey God, we usually obey other authorities.
