When the going gets tough...

August 2, 2015 Series: Job: making sense of life at the foot of the cross

Scripture: Job 22:1–24:25

Throughout the book don't forget the character of Job, the trauma of Job, and the glory of God.

Three Cycles of Dialogue
     #1- Chapters 4-14
     #2- Chapters 15-21
     #3- Chapters 22-31

Eliphaz' Third (and final) Speech (22)

I. Job you have unlimited guilt (22:1-5)
Eliphaz is actually agreeing with Satan's accusations of Job!
II. Job, here is your list of sins (22:6-11)
Eliphaz is accusing Job of not doing enough.
III. Job, you think God doesn't see you (22:12-20)
Eliphaz says that people are probably glad because you deserve it
IV. Job, you have only one option (22:21-30)
Eliphaz tells him that he must submit. Job if what you are saying is true...then why are you suffering?

Job's Response to Eliphaz (23-24)

I. Job's desire of God (23:1-9)
He's long for an opportunity to speak to God.
II. Job's declaration of innocence (23:10-12)
III. Job's dread of God (23:13-17)
IV. Job's disconcerting question (24:1-17)
The injustices in his country and crimes in his city around him.
V. Job's dogmatic statement (24:18-25)

Next Steps:
     > Live in constant desperation for God and His Word. The Word of God gave me strength and solid footing for my faith. In advance of suffering, know His Word. When trouble comes, it is too late to learn what God has to save. Do you have a desperation for God and His Word?
     > Learn to rejoice in the furnace of life's trials as you deepen your love for Jesus. 1 Peter 1:6-9
