How to Raise a Pagan Kid in a Christian Home
As I was enjoying my "day-off-naptime coffee/facebook" time, I came across this article that Dan Leman posted on facebook. The title of the article immediately caught my attention as my husband and I are constantly trying to aviod this in our home. "How to Raise a Pagan in a Christian Home."
The author of the post, Barrett Johnson, argues that, "We end up teaching the wrong thing because we have the wrong objectives."
Is a lesson with a moral the norm in your home?
- You should share becasue the Bible says to
- You should forgive your sister because the Bible says to
- You should obey your parents becasue the Bible says to
And yes you should. But are we teaching our kids that they CAN'T do these things without the grace that Jesus Christ provides? If we aren't, we are boiling the truth of the gospel down to a story with a moral.
We’re drinking a cocktail that’s a mix of the Protestant work ethic, the American dream, and the gospel. And we’ve intertwined them so completely that we can’t tell them apart anymore. Our gospel has become a gospel of following your dreams and being good so God will make all your dreams come true.
